Soros Foundation Romania and Carturesti Foundation organized on Tuesday, February 9th 2010 at 19:00 hours in the Carturesti library attic (13 Arthur Verona Str, 1st District, Bucharest) the debate named “Bucharest's Communities”.
In the last decade, Bucharest has become the residence for different migrant groups, a city with such scarce information in order to be enclosed in the cosmopolitan family, but with many diverse communities. We can find here people from British and Italian communities to Lebanese and Indians communities.
How did the third country nationals live here – their arrival in Bucharest is based on different reasons, many of them exceeding the mere stereotypes developed in the Romanian media - what they bring forth and what they miss most, which are their professional lines and the way in which their culture and the local ones intersect, these are some of the questions to which the guests of the event will answer: Alexandru Balasescu (anthropologist), Serban Toader (anthropologist), Miruna Rolea (anthropologist), Smaranda Wittec (sociologist).
Among the participants, alongside with the above mentioned persons, outlanders of the city of Bucharest will share their experiences, their stories with the city itself. Bogdan Iancu and Liviu Chelcea have adopted the mediator role.
A short presentation movie can be accessed here.
